About Reflexology

The oldest found documentation of reflexology was in the tomb of an Egyptian physician dating around 2300 – 2500BC, the evidence was in hieroglyphics showing two people carrying out healing work on the hands and feet. There is further evidence from ancient text and illustrations that show the feet were worked on to promote health and well being in other countries too, including India, Japan and China. There are also theories that the American Indians were taught the therapy by the Incas.

How does it work?

The body is divided into 10 energy channels that run from the head to the feet, with 5 on each side of the body. Using gentle pressure from our fingers and thumbs, a reflexologist can activate a response on organs within the corresponding channels; resulting in revitalising, balancing and improving the function of organs throughout. It is a safe and natural therapy which has many benefits for your body and mind, as well as giving you a chance to relax during your session.

Benefits

There are many benefits of reflexology including:

  • Provides relaxation, relieves stress, tension and anxiety by generating a deep tranquillity and peace that flows smoothly throughout the body.

  • Increases circulation that helps rid the body of toxins and impurities.

  • Energises and revitalises by relaxing and opening energy pathways: for our mental, physical and emotional well being. This helps stimulate creativity and productivity.

  • Induces homeostasis, helping the whole body to work in harmony and the immune system to work at its best.

Reflexology can work well alongside conventional medicine: it can help with pain management, recovering from illness and managing ongoing health conditions. It can also be used to improve or eliminate many aliments including sleep issues, low mood or low energy, headaches/migraines, digestive problems, pms and more.

What can I expect from my first session?

Your initial appointment will take a little longer as I will go through a consultation form with you, then the treatment itself will last approximately one hour. I will ask you to remove your socks and shoes and make yourself comfortable on a reclining chair. Your feet will be cleansed before the treatment starts which will be tailored to suit your needs. At the end of your session I will go through some aftercare advice with you, so you can gain the maximum benefits from your treatment.
